SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.--- The sixth ranked Cal State San Bernardino (20-2, 14-2 CCAA) outscored the visiting Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks 19-3 in the final four minutes of the game to key their 81-71 win over the 'Jacks.
AJ Sims paced the 'Jacks with a season high 19 points.
Cam Timmons recorded his second double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Jaden Edwards chipped in 14 points while
Amari Green added 12 points for Humboldt.
FIRST HALF: An
AJ Sims' lay-up off a pass from
Jaden Edwards capped a 7-0 run for Humboldt after the Yotes begin the game with a 5-0 lead. Cal State San Bernardino took a 17-10 lead mid-way through the half on a dunk by Darius Mickens. A lay-up by
Cam Timmons cut the 'Jack deficit to 17-14. A Mickens' lay-up capped a 10-0 run by the hosts as they took a 27-14 lead with 4:39 left in the half. An
Amari Green lay-up capped a half-ending 13-2 run by the guests as Humboldt cut the deficit to 29-27 heading into the locker room.
SECOND HALF: An
AJ Sims' three off a pass from
Thomas Melonja on Humboldt's first possession of the new stanza gave the 'Jacks a 30-29 lead. A three by Brandon Knapper three minutes later gave CSUSB a 46-40 lead.
Amari Green's three off a pass from Melonja capped a 9-2 run by the 'Jacks as they took a 49-48 lead. Once again, CSUSB came right back and outscored the 'Jacks 7-1 to take a 55-50 lead. Another three by Sims off a pass from Green tied the game at 57-57 with 8:29 left in regulation. The hosts took a 60-57 lead on a Daytone Jennings' lay-up, but the 'Jacks cut their deficit to one on a lay-up by
Andrew Mork.
The Yotes came right back and increased their lead to 68-59 with just 4:38 on the clock. An old-fashioned three-point play by
Jaden Edwards cut the Yote lead to 68-62 with four minutes to go in the game. The hosts went on a 13-5 run to take an 81-67 lead with just 68 seconds on the clock. Cal Poly Humboldt (10-14, 4-14 CCAA) finished the game scoring the last four points on back to back lay-ups by Edwards, but it was a little too late as CSUSB took the 81-71 victory.
FOUR IN DOUBLE FIGURES: Four 'Jacks scored in double figures this evening led by
AJ Sims' season high 19 points. He went seven-for-17 from the field including four-for-11 from three-point land and one-for-two from the line.
Cam Timmons and
Jaden Edwards each had 14 points while
Amari Green chipped in 12 points.
SECOND DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Cam Timmons recorded his second double-double of the season in 33 minutes of playing time. Timmons scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. He recorded two blocked shots and dished out an assist.
WINNING ON THE BOARDS: Humboldt won battle of the boards 38-36.

FINAL HOME STAND: Humboldt will return to Lumberjack Arena for the final time this regular season on February 24 and 26. The 'Jacks will host Cal State Los Angeles on "Black Out Night" on Thursday, February 24. They will finish out the regular season on Saturday, February 26 as the "Jacks entertain No. 14 Cal State San Marcos. Prior to the game on Saturday, Humboldt will recognize
