After eight years with the program, women's volleyball head coach Kelly Wood will end her tenure with Cal Poly Humboldt.  
 
"We are thankful for Kelly's many years of service to Cal Poly Humboldt and to Lumberjack Athletics," said Cooper Jones, Cal Poly Humboldt's Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics & Campus Recreation.  "Her leadership, commitment, and hard work on behalf of our talented student-athletes has made a tangible impact on our women's volleyball program."

Wood recently completed her eighth season at the helm of the Lumberjacks program, and is the program's fourth all-time winningest head coach with 54 victories.  
 
Prior to joining the Lumberjack program, Wood served as head coach at Santa Rosa Junior College for 10 years, guiding the Bear Cubs to seven appearances in the California Community College State Championships.  Her teams appeared in six consecutive CCCSA tournaments and won four Big Eight Conference titles in five years, earning her recognition as Conference Coach of the Year Honors three times and Regional Coach of the Year honors twice.

"We will certainly miss Kelly's positive attitude, infectious spirit, and friendly demeanor,"  Jones said.  "Our volleyball program is in a better place because of Kelly's longstanding commitment to her team's academic and social growth."

Following graduation from South Fork High School, Wood attended Santa Rosa Junior College, starring as a volleyball and basketball player from 1992-94.  She transferred to Sonoma State University for her final two collegiate volleyball seasons, earning all-conference and all-region honors while leading the Seawolves to the Northern California Athletic Conference Championship.

Wood graduated from Sonoma State in 1997 with a bachelor's degree in psychology, then served two stints as an assistant coach at SRJC and one year as interim head coach.  She was hired as head coach in 2002 following the retirement of Diane Campagna.  Wood earned a master's degree in education from Chapman University in 2004.

Wood is the niece of legendary former HSU men's basketball head coach Tom Wood. She continues a family coaching legacy established by her uncle, who guided Cal Poly Humboldt to 11 appearances in the NCAA Division II Championships and holds the Lumberjack basketball record for most career wins.

A national search for a new women's volleyball coach will begin immediately.
