ARCATA, Calif.--- Cal Poly Humboldt Student-Athlete Advisory Committee participated in the Make-A-Wish Workout for Wishes program on April 24. In honor of seven-year-old Charlie's wish to have a hot tub, the Jacks are collecting donations to help make wishes come true. All proceeds will benefit Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area and support their mission to grant wishes for children ages 2.5 to 18 battling critical illnesses.
"When we got connected with Kelsey (Wetzstein) and Make-A-Wish to learn about the Workout for Wishes opportunity, I was ecstatic," said Cal Poly Humboldt Student-Athlete Advisory Committee co-President
Macy Thomas. "These are my favorite kinds of workouts to do, I think there's something very powerful in doing a hard workout that has meaning and purpose behind it, because I know that the pain I just went through is temporary, and it's only a fraction of what Charlie has fought through. I really encourage everyone to give this work-out a try, donate if you can, and share Charlie's story."
Members of the eleven Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjack intercollegiate teams participated in Workout for Wishes in honor of Charlie who had a bone marrow transplant. Cal Poly Humboldt student-athletes challenge you to do a workout and help make wishes like Charlie's wish to have a hot tub come true. Charlie is most excited to be able to go in a hot tub anytime he likes and looks forward to playing in the water with his brother and sister.
Quotes from the Jack Student-Athletes
"The Make-A-Wish Project for this semester was envisioned to be collaborative with all the sports," said Jack cross country runner
Rosa Granados. The Cross Country and Track Team had so much fun spending time out in the field with all of the Lumberjacks and coaches. We are one step closer to making wishes like Charlie's become a reality! Let's go Jacks!"
"Charlie is a young man who has had to overcome a lot in his life so for all us athletes to come together and do this workout was the least we could do to show our support for him.," noted Jack men's basketball player
Jaden Edwards.
"It was nice to see the athletic department come together to help raise money to make wishes like Charlie's come true," said Humboldt women's basketball player
Madison Parry. "It was fun being able to work-out with different sports' teams for a great cause. I can't wait for Charlie to get his hot tub!"
"The workout for Charlie, was extremely fun," said Humboldt men's soccer player

The Division II Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, which is the primary student-based group that contributes to policy-making for the division, established the Make-A-Wish partnership in 2003 and has since become one of the foundation's largest and most consistent contributors.
NCAA Division II has raised more than $6.2 million toward granting the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. Almost 740 wishes have been granted through NCAA Division II contributions.
