CHICO, Calif.--- Cal Poly Humboldt saw their three game winning streak snapped as the Jacks fell to Chico State 1-0 this afternoon at University Stadium in Chico. Carson Thomson-Terrel recorded five saves in goal while offensively the Jacks had five different players with shot attempts in Emma McChristie, Grace Johnson, Erin Mohr, Megan Janikowski and Jysabella Tolentino.
FIRST HALF: Thomson-Terrel would be tested early, saving a shot less than two minutes into the match. However, Chico found the net in the ninth minute on a Piper Matson goal assisted by Susanna Garcia. The Jacks would attempt to respond just minutes later with shots on goal by Janikowski and Tolentino in the 11th and 16th minutes, but both were saved by Wildcat goalkeeper Emma Hofmann. The half would end with the Jacks trailing 1-0.
SECOND HALF: Humboldt started aggressively, with the Lumberjacks almost equalizing the game before an offsides call overturned the goal in the fifth minute of the second period. Four of Thomson-Terrel's five saves would come in the second half as the goalkeeper would record another save in the 63rd minute off another Matson shot attempt. Emma McChristie would respond just three minutes later with another shot attempt, but Hofmann would save that one as well. The Jacks goalkeeper would have another save attempt with just seven minutes remaining, but the Humboldt offense couldn't get anything to fall, dropping the match by one point.
STATS: Chico State held an advantage in corner kicks (6-2), shots (11-6) and shots on goal (6-3) while Humboldt recorded more saves (5-3). The Lumberjacks also were at a disadvantage with fouls, as the team racked up 13 fouls compared to Chico's five. Individually, McChristie, Janikowski and Tolentino were responsible for the Jacks three shot on goal attempts.
UP NEXT: The Jacks officially begin CCAA play on Friday, Sept. 23 with a roadtrip to the bay area to face San Francisco State. They will pair that off with a match on Sunday, Sept. 25 against Sonoma State in Rohnert Park.
