SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.--- Despite limiting their opponent to zero shot attempts while attempting eight of their own, the Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks failed to put the ball in goal, as the team was forced into a scoreless stalemate against the Gators of San Francisco State on Friday afternoon at Cox Stadium. A shot by Jysabella Tolentino with seconds left in the match came frustratingly close to putting the Jacks on top, but was thwarted by San Francisco's Marcella Salyer to end the match 0-0. Tolentino led the team with three shot attempts, followed by Frida Duran Arellano with two and Emma McChristie with one. Annie Hoffman and Kylea Becker also recorded shot attempts coming off the bench.
FIRST HALF: Humboldt started things off with shots by Tolentino and McChristie in the seventh and eighth minutes. Duran Arellano would follow things up with a shot attempt of her own in the 26th minute, but her attempt was saved by Salyer to keep things even at zero.
SECOND HALF: About 12 minutes passed into the second period before Duran Arellano attempted a shot in the 57th minute that missed wide left. Annie Hoffman would come off the bench and shoot in the 64th minute only to be saved by the Gators. Overall, the Jacks outshot the Gators 5-0 in the second period, but couldn't seem to find the net, including Tolentino's last attempt with thirty seconds remaining to end the match scoreless.
STATS: Overall, Humboldt outshot the Gators 8-0, with three of those shots on goal. Both teams were tied in terms of corner kicks (2-2) while San Francisco had more fouls (5-9).
UP NEXT: Humboldt will finish off their first weekend of conference action with a matchup against the Seawolves of Sonoma State on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 11:30am in Rohnert Park.
