No. 22 Seawolves Blank Jacks, Humboldt Returns Home to Face CSULA

ROHNERT PARK, Calif.--- Sonoma State wasted no time getting on the board this afternoon. The no. 22 ranked Seawolves scored goals in the second and tenth minutes, as the team cruised to a 5-0 victory over the Lumberjacks at Seawolf Soccer Field. Five Lumberjacks attempted shots this afternoon in Emma McChristie, Grace Johnson, Emilie Wallin, Carmella Baldessarre and Rhea Chan. Carson Thomson-Terrel recorded three saves for the Jacks while Marisol Camargo recorded an additional save coming off the bench.

FIRST HALF: Sonoma State's Malia Falk tested the Jacks early with a goal in the second minute assisted by Julia Pritchard. Baldassarre attempted a shot in the tenth minute, but it would miss right, as the Seawolves would respond thirty seconds later with their second goal of the afternoon via Annette Sotelo on a ball from Falk. Grace Johnson would attempt to get things going with an attempt in the 27th minute, but couldn't find the net. Chan's attempt in the 42nd minute was saved by Seawolf goalkeeper Kennedy Williams, as the Jacks went into half trailing 2-0.

SECOND HALF: Wallin would record another shot attempt in the 50th minute to try to chip away at Sonoma's lead, but it was again off the mark. Sonoma would respond four minutes later with their third goal of the match courtesy of Sotelo. The seawolves would expand their lead to 4-0 just minutes later off a penalty kick by Lexi Zandonella-Arasa after a foul and yellowcard on Maddie Johnson. Falk would score her second goal of the match in the 63rd minute to give the Seawolves a 5-0 lead, which would end up being the final.

STATS: The nationally ranked Seawolves outshot the Lumberjacks 21-5 while also having more corner kicks (6-3). Both teams were issued yellow cards in the first half while Johnson and Sonoma State's Grace Ingalls were both given yellow cards in the second half.

UP NEXT:  The Lumberjacks (3-3-2, 0-1-1 CCAA) return to College Creek field for a Friday afternoon matchup with Cal State LA on Sept. 30 at 3pm.
