Long's Seventh Goal Lifts Humboldt Past Dominguez Hills

ARCATA, Calif. -- Cal Poly Humboldt women's soccer defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills this afternoon with a final score of 1-0 to push them into third place in the current CCAA standings. The 'Jacks improve to 5-3-1 in conference play and have an overall record of 11-3-2. Emilia Long scored her seventh goal of the season, which puts her tied for second in the CCAA for most goals scored.

The Jacks fired off 26 shots with 12 on goal but were only able to get one strike past the Dominguez Hills goalkeeper Kylie Yuzon, who had to come up big several times to keep the Lumberjack offense at bay. Junior forward Emilia Long notched the lone tally for the 'Jacks in the fifth minute, rifling a right-footed shot from 20 yards out that bounced off the right post and into the back of the net past Yuzon. The 'Jacks had a chance to make it 2-0 late in the first half but Yuzon stuffed a penalty kick from midfielder Brooke Weese.

The Jacks amassed 12 corner kicks but were not able to convert. Dominguez mustered only 6 shots on the afternoon, but their gritty defense made it difficult for the 'Jacks to add on to their fifth-minute score from Long. Frida Duran Arellano led the Jacks with 7 shots and Carson Thomson-Terrel picked up her 10th shutout of the season.

Cal Poly Humboldt returns to the field Sunday morning at 11:30 a.m. against Cal State LA. Prior to the match, the program will honor five seniors who are playing in their last regular season home game: Ashley Blake, Rhea Chan, Ryanne Chapman, Grace Johnson and Brooke Weese.
