No. 24 Humboldt Remains Unbeaten After Defeating Fresno Pacific

ARCATA, Calif. -- No. 24 Cal Poly Humboldt hosted Fresno Pacific for a non-conference matchup on Thursday from College Creek Field. The 'Jacks defeated the Sunbirds with a final score of 3-0 to remain unbeaten thus far, improving their overall record to 4-0-1. Grace Johnson, Emilia Long, and Erin Mohr all scored goals in the match, while Carson Thomson Terrel had five saves and posted a clean sheet. Emilia Long now leads the California Collegiate Athletic Association with five goals scored.

Match Summary
The Lumberjacks were in control of the match from the first whistle, as Humboldt came out with high energy and execution. Nearly 13 minutes into the match, Grace Johnson found the back of the goal on an assist from Frida Duran Arellano. That goal was quickly followed by another, as CCAA leading scorer Emilia Long scored on an assist from Abby Borg. As the first half rounded out, Humboldt went into the locker room up 2-0 on the Sunbirds. Although FPU and Humboldt each had three shots on goal, the 'Jacks posted over double the amount of shots taken (7-3).

Just two minutes into the second half, Emilia Long had an advantage up-field to score a goal when she was fouled hard in the box by a Fresno defender, resulting in a penalty kick. Erin Mohr was selected to take the penalty kick and she converted to give Humboldt a 3-0 lead. Despite efforts from Fresno to get on the scoreboard, the Humboldt defense proved tough and ony allowed two shots in the second half. Frustrations intensified for the Sunbirds as one of the few cards assessed was a red card (second yellow) on Alena Schenk. 21 Lumberjacks saw the field on Thursday and as the game came to a close, Humboldt out-possessed and out shot Fresno 14-5 to run away with their fourth win of the season.
