ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks took on their second day in Michigan competing in Grand Valley State University's Big Meet - Saturday. The meet hosted many of the team's that had competed the previous day, including CCAA conference competitors San Francisco State and Stanislaus State. The 'Jacks had finished their trip in Michigan with new personal records and a huge feat for the women's 4x400 relay.
The men's side had a successful day on the distance side, with Jaxon Leduc taking 11th place in the mile with a time of 4:21.24, and Sebastian Vaisset-Fauvel with a 13th place finish in the 800 with a time of 1:55.72.
The sprinter's were led by Joey Bowser, who ran in the 400m and 200m and men's 4x400m race. Bowser earned himself top-25 placements in both the 400m and 200m races, running a time of 50.41 in the 400m and 22.61 in the 200m earning a 21st and 20th place finish. He also anchored the men's 4x400m relay that received 8th place with a time of 3:24.68.
Along with Bowser's performance, came Cristian Megas' performance in the 200m with a 15th place finish and a time of 22.47. Ryan Castro also had a big day, running a personal best in the 60m with a time of 7.10 earning himself a 28th place finish and the top 60m time for the Jack's that day.
The women's side had a big days well. Cadence Peery led the sprinters in the 200m and 60m races, running a time of 26.24 in the 200m and a time of 8.11 in the 60m with a 24th and 34th place finish.
Grace Kasberger and Cocome McKamey continued their dominant performances. Both collected new personal records in shot put with Kasberger receiving a mark of 11.09m (36 '4.5ft), and Mckamey with an 11.33m (37' 2ft) mark. These marks were good enough to place in the top 25.
Joy Hano received 5th place finishes in both her events, running a time of 9.05 in the 60m hurdles and jumping a mark of 5.22m (17 '1.5) in long jump. Ginny Brooks also had a competitive day in long jump, jumping 5.28m (17 '3.75ft) placing her in 3rd and earning a new personal record.
Isabel Perez-Zogbhi continues to impress with her talents, running a new personal record in the 400m with a time of 55.71. Her performance was enough to receive a 1st place finish, and improved her National Provisional Mark. Perez-Zogbhi also anchored the fastest 4x400m relay that Humboldt has seen in 28 years, with other team members being Joy Hano, Grace Kasberger, and Cocome McKamey.
The Lumberjacks will bring their talents back home on February 17th for the teams Green and Gold Open, hosted in the Redwood Bowl. The meet will allow alumni, community members, and current athletes to compete in some friendly competition.
