Allendale, Mich. -- On Friday, February 9th, the Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks took their talents across the country to Michigan and competed in Grand Valley State University's Big Meet - Friday. The meet hosted over 100 teams including a couple other CCAA teams such as San Francisco State and Stanislaus State. The team had a load of new personal records and Isabel Perez-Zoghbi earned her second National Provisional Mark.
Leading the women's side, Isabel Perez-Zoghbi ran in her first collegiate 800m race, despite it being her first 800 of the year, Perez-Zoghbi ran a National Provisional Mark of 2:12.44.
Alexa Amador and Saedy Williamson competed in their first indoor meet, both running in the mile. Amador ran a time of 5:39.57 and Williamson a time of 5:30.73.
Cocome McKamey earned herself a new personal record of 5.60 (18 '4.5 ft), a mark good enough to earn her a 5th place finish.
The men's side also included some first timers, Sebastian Vaisset-Fauvel and Jaxon Leduc, who both ran in the 3000m run. Vaisset-Fauvel ran a time of 8:36.73 and Leduc a time of 8:50.09. Michael DeTamble, another first timer, opened his season with a 8.98 in the 60m hurdles.
Robert Cardenas III and Joseph Gonzalez had a big day, both of them coming home with new personal records. Gonzalez led the way with a throw of 14.59m (47'10 ft) earning himself a 21st place finish. Cardenas followed with his own impressive mark of 13.84m (46'5 ft).
The team was pushed at this meet being able to compete with top competitors. This meet was the first of two in Michigan. They will follow this meet with the Grand Valley State University Big Meet - Saturday.
