REDDING, Calif. -- Cal Poly Humboldt closed out preseason play on Saturday morning with an exhibition match in Redding against Simpson University. After scoring just one goal in the previous two friendlies this Fall, Humboldt found their stride and defeated the Red Hawks with a final score of 4-0.
Alexis Blue and
Heidie Munoz each scored a pair of goals.
Alexis Blue gave the 'Jacks a lead early on and Humboldt led at halftime with a score of 1-0. In the second half, Humboldt's offense exploded for three goals, two by freshman
Heidie Munoz and another from Blue to cap off a 4-0 victory.
"It was good to see the ball go in the back of the net," stated head coach
Grant Landy. "We got some momentum today and will hopefully carry that into the season opener next Thursday at home. We are excited to get things rolling next week and face some high level competition. I'm proud of our performance today."
Most notably, the defense of Humboldt hasn't allowed a goal all preseason. The back line and goalkeepers will look to continue their strong presence as the season gets underway.
The Lumberjacks will kickoff their season at home next Thursday, September 5 at 3:00 PM versus Azusa Pacific.
