Cal Poly Humboldt Secures Second Straight Win with 2-0 Shutout Over Academy of Art

SAN FRANCISCO – Cal Poly Humboldt continued its winning momentum with a dominant 2-0 victory over Academy of Art on Saturday afternoon at SF Glens Treasure Island Field. The win marks Humboldt's second consecutive triumph in the Bay Area this week, improving their record to 2-2-0 on the season.

"We played well today," said head coach Grant Landy. "We are starting to gain some confidence with the way we want to play and are beginning to trust each other. Our execution in the box still needs to be better, we had some good looks at goal today that we will need to start converting. We are moving in the right direction and need to keep progressing this next week."

After a scoreless first half, Humboldt found the back of the net in the 52nd minute when Frida Duran Arellano netted her second goal of the season. Assisted by Camryn Patten, Duran Arellano capitalized on a breakaway, curling a shot from the top right of the box to the left post, giving the Lumberjacks a 1-0 lead.

Humboldt struck again in the 78th minute when Alexis Blue recorded her first goal of the season. Duran Arellano provided the assist, sending a cross from the right side that Blue converted into a left-post finish, sealing the 2-0 victory.

The Lumberjacks' defense was equally impressive, allowing just four shots (two on goal) the entire match. Goalkeeper Adea Nunes notched two saves.

Humboldt dominated the offensive statistics, tallying 24 shots—14 of which were on goal—while Academy of Art managed only four shots, with ART U goalkeeper making 12 saves to keep the Urban Knights within reach. The Lumberjacks also held the advantage in corner kicks, 7-1.

Looking Ahead

The Lumberjacks, now 2-2-0, will look to carry this momentum into their next match as they prepare to return home next Wednesday, September 18, against Jessup University. Academy of Art falls to 0-2-1 on the season.

The Lumberjacks are scheduled to kickoff against the Warriors at 3:00 PM. Be sure to checkout the new hospitality area, as concessions and ice cold beverages will be available for purchase!
