SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The Cal Poly Humboldt men's and women's cross country teams will travel to the Bay Area to compete in the San Francisco State Invitational this Friday, Oct. 10, at Golden Gate Park. The women's 6K is set to begin at 3:30 p.m., followed by the men's 8K at 4:15 p.m. An award ceremony will close out the afternoon at 5:15 p.m. The meet serves as a key tune-up for both squads as they continue to build toward the CCAA Championships later this month.
LAST TIME OUT
The Lumberjacks faced a competitive field at the Mike Johnson Classic in Monmouth, Ore., where the men placed fifth out of 13 teams with 177 points and the women finished ninth out of 14.
For the men, junior Jacob Christopher led the way with a 23rd-place finish with a time of 24:39.40, followed closely by junior Elias Wiggins (25:27.40). Senior Michael Sides, freshman Spencer Borin, and freshman Nicholas Woolery rounded out Humboldt's scoring five, all finishing under 26 minutes to showcase the team's consistency and depth.
"This team finishing in fifth-place amongst top teams in the NCAA West Region was exciting to watch," said head coach Scott Pesch. "We had standout performances from Jacob and Elias and were very impressed with the group's overall effort."
On the women's side, senior Isabel Perez-Zoghbi led Humboldt with a 17th-place finish in 21:32.00, while senior Lex Craven (22:48.20), junior Brinna Weiseth, sophomore Lyla Fedio, and sophomore Anna Tasky rounded out the scoring lineup.
RUNNING THROUGH THE CITY
Friday's meet at Golden Gate Park will feature a strong mix of regional and CCAA competition, offering the Lumberjacks another chance to measure themselves against familiar opponents. The men's team will aim to continue closing their pack gap and build on their top-five finish at Western Oregon, while the women's squad looks to regain full strength and maintain its upward momentum heading into championship season.
