MCKINLEYVILLE, Calif. – The Cal Poly Humboldt men's cross country team opened their 2025 season with a strong performance at the Jim Hunt Humboldt Invitational, hosted on their home course at Beau Pre Golf Course on Saturday morning. Facing conference foes and regional competitors, the Lumberjacks saw standout individual finishes and a great team effort in the Men's 8K race.
MEN'S 8K
Cal Poly Humboldt's men placed second overall with 31 points, paced by a dominant performance from junior Jacob Christopher, who finished third overall with a time of 25:21.76. Freshman Nicholas Woolery and junior Elias Wiggins worked together to secure sixth and seventh place with identical times of 26:02, giving Humboldt a strong early scoring pack.
Freshman Spencer Borin crossed in ninth at 26:09.55, while sophomore Daniel Shaver rounded out the scoring five in 13th place at 26:22.07. Sophomore Trevor Stewart was close behind in 14th, finishing in 26:24.31.
Southern Oregon captured the team title with 26 points, narrowly beating Humboldt by just five points in a thrilling finish. Oregon Tech placed third with 65 points and San Francisco State placed fourth with 99 points.
UP NEXT
The Lumberjacks will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 27, competing at the Mike Johnson Classic in Monmouth, Ore. The meet will give Humboldt another opportunity to test its depth against a competitive regional field as the season progresses.
