Lumberjack Wrestling Hosts Southern Oregon for Alumni Night

ARCATA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Humboldt men's wrestling team returns to Lumberjack Arena this Friday, December 12, for a dual against Southern Oregon. Action begins at 7:30 p.m. PT as the program celebrates Alumni Night.

LAST TIME OUT

Humboldt (5-1) enters Friday's matchup following its first defeat of the season, a 30–11 setback to CSU Pueblo inside Lumberjack Arena. Despite the loss, the dual featured several strong individual performances.

At 149 pounds, Jayson Victoria delivered the highlight of the evening, pinning Thales Rivas in just 43 seconds, the fastest fall of the night. At 133, Benjamin Quilpa turned in a dominant showing with a 17–2 technical fall at 6:27, giving the Jacks their second regulation victory of the dual.

Humboldt battled through multiple close matches at 141, 157, 165, 174 and 197 pounds, but the ThunderWolves narrowly swung each bout to keep control of the team score. The Jacks also collected an exhibition win at 149, where Sam Weinberg earned a 7–1 decision.

Friday's defeat provided valuable evaluation for the staff as they continue shaping early-season lineup combinations ahead of conference-heavy competition this winter.

Projected lineup:
125 - Caleb Tatad
133 - Josh Neiwert
141 - Darrell Nanpuya
149 - Jayson Victoria
157 - Gil Mossburg
165 - Joe Anthony Perez
174 - Nathan Vasquez
184 - Eric Ruiz-Cornelio
197 - Micaiah Montalbin
285 - Liam Clark

SOUTHERN OREGON

Southern Oregon arrives in Arcata with a physical, disciplined style and a roster that excels in both edge pressure and scramble wrestling. The Raiders' balanced lineup offers another meaningful test for a Humboldt squad looking to rebound quickly from last week's loss. Southern Oregon comes into the dual ranked No. 7 nationally for NAIA.

The 'Jacks will look to build on standout efforts from their lightweights and middleweights. Victoria enters the dual with momentum, while Joe Anthony Perez, Nathan Vasquez, and Micaiah Montalbin each look to convert last week's narrow losses into breakthrough performances at home.

Humboldt will emphasize first-period scoring, improved mat returns, and cleaner finishes on leg attacks—three areas that could shift the balance in several projected toss-up matches. With alumni in attendance and a strengthening home environment, Friday's dual provides a prime opportunity for the Jacks to reestablish rhythm heading into the winter stretch.

UP NEXT

Cal Poly Humboldt will compete at the Reno Tournament of Champions on Sunday, Dec. 21 before returning in January for five straight weekends of competition.
