ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Cal Poly Humboldt women's track & field team traveled to the Midwest to compete against elite competition at the GVSU Big Meet on Friday at the Grand Valley State-Laker Turf Building.
Highlighting the day for the Lumberjacks was Cocome McKamey, who finished sixth in the long jump with a mark of 5.37m (17' 7.5"), showcasing her consistency with a series of solid jumps. Ginny Brooks also delivered a strong performance in the event, placing 15th with a best mark of 4.84m (15' 10.5").
On the track, Brielle Jimerson had an impressive showing in the 400-meter dash, finishing fifth in her section with a time of 59.46. Meanwhile, Artana Nice put in a solid effort in the 3000 meters, clocking 10:15.62 to place 39th overall in a deep field.
In the sprints, Mia Roberts and Chris Roberds competed in the 60-meter preliminaries, posting times of 8.14 and 8.29, respectively. Roberts was also slated to compete in the 200 meters but did not register a time.
The Lumberjacks had a strong presence in the 60-meter hurdles, led by Cocome McKamey, who ran 9.30 to finish 20th. Roberds and Brooks followed with times of 9.64 and 9.66, respectively.
In the high jump, Lily Shadden cleared 1.48m (4' 10.25") to place 18th, while Katie MacLean and Tully Leonard were unable to clear a height.
The meet also featured a solid showing in the weight throw, with Marielle Winuk recording a best mark of 12.81m (42' 0.5"), finishing 35th overall.
Cal Poly Humboldt will continue its indoor season tomorrow (Feb. 15) at the GVSU Big Meet - Saturday meet.
