ASHLAND, Ore. – Cal Poly Humboldt women's track & field turned in a strong all-around performance at the Raider Invitational, hosted by Southern Oregon University on April 17-18, highlighted by event wins, personal bests, and a dominant distance showing.
Day 1: Distance Crew Dominates, Coil and Muellerleile Claim Wins
The Lumberjacks set the tone early with a commanding sweep of the women's 3000-meter steeplechase, going 1-2-3 in impressive fashion. Junior Katelyn Touchet led the charge with a winning time of 11:53.86, followed closely by sophomore Anna Tasky in second (11:59.84) and junior Lex Craven in third (12:32.89).
Humboldt continued its momentum in the 5000 meters, where senior Brinna Weiseth placed second overall in 18:25.54. Freshman Maddie McKenna delivered a breakthrough performance, placing fourth with a personal-best 18:29.26, while fellow freshman Nayeli Huynh also recorded a personal best of 19:13.99 to finish eighth. Junior Charlotte Leonard (6th, 19:00.68), sophomore Lyla Fedio (10th, 19:29.08), and sophomore Izzi Peila (11th, 19:38.27) rounded out a deep showing for the Jacks.
In the field events, freshman Sophie Coil had a standout day, capturing the discus title with a throw of 40.40 meters (132'6"). She also added a runner-up finish in the shot put (11.64m / 38'2.25"), leading a strong Humboldt showing that included Laura White (6th, 10.70m) and Isabella Claussen (7th, 10.65m).
Sophomore Katarina Muellerleile claimed victory in the pole vault, clearing 3.38 meters (11'1"). She made three strong attempts at a potential school-record height, highlighting her continued progression this season.
Day 2: Personal Bests and Conference-Leading Marks Highlight Strong Finish
Touchet returned on Day 2 to post a personal best in the 800 meters, finishing fifth in 2:24.85 to cap an impressive weekend after her steeplechase victory.
In the field, junior Marielle Winuk secured Humboldt's third event win of the meet in the hammer throw with a mark of 43.82 meters (143'9"). Teammate Laura White added a fourth-place finish (40.33m), continuing a strong showing from the throws group.
Sophomore Lily Shadden turned in one of the top performances of the weekend, winning the high jump with a personal-best clearance of 1.65 meters (5'5"), a mark that now ranks No. 1 in the CCAA this season. Shadden also posted a personal best in the long jump, placing sixth at 5.06 meters (16'7.25").
Muellerleile added to her successful weekend with a personal-best mark of 4.63 meters (15'2.25") in the long jump, finishing eighth.
On the track, senior Tully Leonard placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:14.03) and added a fourth-place finish in the high jump (1.45m), contributing across multiple events.
