GOLD RIVER, Calif. -- The Cal Poly Humboldt women's rowing team opened its spring season with a strong showing at the Hornet Invitational on Lake Natoma, highlighted by a second-place finish from its varsity eight in the morning wave, edging Kansas State in a tightly contested race.

The Lumberjacks competed in a varsity eight, varsity four, and second varsity four across both the morning and afternoon sessions. The regatta featured a 2,000-meter course and included all Division I crews from Sacramento State, Kansas State, and UC San Diego.

In the morning session, Humboldt's varsity eight delivered one of the most exciting races of the day, securing a runner-up finish behind Sacramento State. The Jacks clocked in just ahead of Kansas State to claim second place. Sacramento State took the win with a time of 6:48.4, while Humboldt crossed next, narrowly beating Kansas State.

Humboldt's varsity four and second varsity four also turned in competitive performances, gaining valuable race experience against strong Division I opponents. In the afternoon session, the Lumberjacks faced off against UC San Diego, Sacramento State, and Kansas State once again, continuing to build early-season momentum.

The Lumberjacks return to action next Saturday, March 22, when they travel to Seattle, Washington for the Falcon Regatta that is hosted by Seattle Pacific University at the LW. Ship Canal.
