ARCATA, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt showcased a dominant performance at the Humboldt Invitational, securing the team victory while recording 27 personal bests, seven individual event winners, and 15 marks that rank among the CCAA's top 10 this season. The Jacks also honored six seniors prior to the meet: Jaxon Leduc, Ryan Castro, Carson Smith, Julian Jensen, Dominic Raffetto, and Cristian Megas.
Sprints and Relays Shine
In the 100-meter dash, Ryan Castro (10.76) and Cristian Megas (10.88) led a 1-2 finish for the Jacks, with four additional Humboldt athletes placing in the top 10. Megas continued his dominance in the 200 meters, winning in 21.68, followed by Dylan Ochoa (22.27) in third and Joey Bowser (22.40) in fourth.
Humboldt's relay squads also impressed, with the 4x100-meter relay team of Connor Pratt, Joey Bowser, Cristian Megas, and Ryan Castro taking first place in 41.63, while the 4x400-meter relay team of Donovan Bailey, Jamie Saunders, Joey Bowser, and Dylan Ochoa finished second in 3:30.48.
Middle and Long Distance Excellence
Elias Wiggins set the tone for the middle-distance events, winning the 800 meters in 1:52.93, while Hunter Phillips (1:53.53) and Julian Jensen (1:54.31) finished second and fourth, respectively. In the 1500 meters, Jaxon LeDuc (4:00.30) and Otis Kelly (4:02.67) placed second and third, with three Lumberjacks finishing in the top five.
The 5000 meters saw Scott Caricato lead a podium sweep for Humboldt, clocking in at 15:21.44, followed closely by Jonah Grubbs (15:22.99) and Daniel Shaver (15:26.59).
Hurdlers Make a Statement
Isaak Kasso continued his strong season with a victory in the 110-meter hurdles (15.05), while teammate Walker Dorris placed third (15.41). Dorris also took second in the 400-meter hurdles (55.90), with Michael DeTamble securing third (57.16).
Field Events Deliver Big Marks
Humboldt's jumpers and vaulters produced major highlights, with Michael Payan winning the pole vault in an NCAA DII provisional mark of 4.96m (16'3.25"). Adam Garrison cleared 4.36m (14'3.5") to finish fourth.
In the high jump, Gabriel Bondurant cleared 1.94m (6'4.25") to claim third place. In the shot put and discus, Joseph Gonzalez took home two second place finishes with two new PR's, throwing a 16.16m mark in the shot put (3rd in CCAA, 2nd all-time at Humboldt) and a 45.26 mark in the discus (7th in CCAA).
Jacks Rolling into the Heart of the Season
Next up, Cal Poly Humboldt will travel to the Bay Area this week for the SFSU Fanelli Classic that begins on Thursday, the Brutus Hamilton Multi that begins on Thursday, and the Brutus Hamilton Invitational that is on Saturday.
