Humboldt Hosts Blue Heron Humboldt Regatta, Jacks Shine in Competitive Home Waters

EUREKA, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt rowing delivered strong performances in front of a home crowd as the Jacks hosted the Blue Heron Humboldt Regatta on March 29 at Humboldt Bay. Competing against Saint Mary's, Lewis & Clark, and Chico State in women's races, the Jacks secured multiple podium finishes and showcased their depth in the lone home regatta of the season.

The 2,000-meter course, featuring a floating start and light cross-tail winds of 0-5 mph, saw its conditions evolve with the tide, leading to slight variations in race lengths. Despite the adjustments, the Jacks excelled across multiple events, capturing key victories and podium finishes.

Strong Showing in Varsity Four and Varsity Eight
The Jacks' varsity four narrowly missed victory, finishing just behind Saint Mary's in a tightly contested race. Saint Mary's took the win in 6:09.5, while Humboldt crossed at 6:10.2, followed by Lewis & Clark (6:33.1) and the Jacks' second varsity four (6:33.9).

In the women's varsity eight, Humboldt placed second with a time of 6:19.0, trailing Saint Mary's (6:08.0) but ahead of the Saint Mary's second varsity eight (6:21.0) and Lewis & Clark (7:39.0).

Dominant Performance in Small Boat Races
The Jacks found great success in small boat races, winning the women's 2-/2x event. Humboldt's "B" boat took first in 6:37.3, with their "A" boat following at 7:03.0, ahead of Chico State (7:22.9).

Novice Crews Deliver Solid Results
Humboldt's women's novice four finished fourth (6:37.4) in a race won by Saint Mary's (6:27.9).

A Successful Home Regatta, Looking Ahead

With the lone home regatta of the season complete, the Jacks now turn their attention to upcoming competitions as they continue their pursuit of their fourth national championship. On Saturday, April 5, the Jacks will head to Oklahoma City to compete at the UCO Invite, which is hosted by GNAC opponent University of Central Oklahoma.
