GOLD RIVER, Calif. — Cal Poly Humboldt Rowing had a standout opening day at the 2025 Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships, with three boats qualifying for the Grand Finals after strong performances Saturday on Lake Natoma.
The Lumberjacks' Varsity 8 set the tone early, winning their heat with a commanding time of 6:53.865 to move straight into Sunday's Grand Final. Humboldt crossed the line well ahead of the field, showcasing their speed and composure on this championship weekend.
Shortly after, the Varsity 4 continued the momentum, winning their heat with a time of 7:32.533 to also advance to the Grand Final. The 'Jacks established an early lead and never looked back, securing a commanding victory and lane position for Sunday's final.
The Novice 4 added another highlight to the day, placing second in their heat with a time of 8:17.951, which was good enough to qualify for the Grand Final. In all Grand Finals at WIRA, you must've secured placed in the top-three on of Saturday's heats.
Meanwhile, the 2nd Varsity 4 finished fourth in a hard-fought heat, clocking in at 8:11.158. They advance to Sunday's Petite Final.
Racing resumes Sunday morning at Lake Natoma with championship finals beginning at 8 a.m.
