SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The Cal Poly Humboldt men's distance squad turned in a string of personal-best performances at the 2025 Mike Fanelli Track Classic, hosted by San Francisco State University at Cox Stadium. From the 800 meters to the 10,000, the Lumberjacks showcased their growth and depth across the three-day meet, highlighted by seven personal records and a steady presence in nearly every section of competition.
In the 10,000 meters, Finn Granger and Daniel Shaver set the tone for the weekend with standout personal bests. Granger clocked a lifetime mark of 31:33.23 to place 37th overall in a deep field, while Shaver followed with a strong effort of 32:50.24. Jonah Grubbs rounded out the 'Jacks' performance in the 10k, finishing in 33:36.37.
The 5000 meters brought another breakout moment as Otis Kelly, a freshman, shattered the 15-minute barrier for the first time in his career. He ran 14:55.68, placing 58th in one of the most competitive sections of the evening.
The momentum carried over into the 1500 meters where three Lumberjacks posted personal bests. Jaxon LeDuc led the way with a time of 3:57.33, followed by freshmen Kees Van Der Meer (4:03.55) and Saul Jimenez (4:05.54), both setting PRs in their sections. Hunter Phillips (3:58.95) and Elias Wiggins (4:07.10) also turned in solid efforts.
In the 800 meters, LeDuc doubled back with another personal best, running 1:59.82 to crack the two-minute barrier. Van Der Meer (1:56.31) and Jimenez (1:57.78) finished just ahead of LeDuc in the event.
Senior Dominic Raffetto paced Humboldt in the 800 with a 1:54.05 showing, while Hunter Phillips (1:54.60), Julian Jensen (1:56.23), and Orlando Soriano (1:59.57) rounded out a tightly packed group effort.
Up next, the Jacks will head to Chico to compete in the Chico Twilight and Distance Carnival on Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April 12.
