BERKELEY, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt women's track and field turned in a strong showing at the 2025 Brutus Hamilton Invitational, highlighted by personal bests from Ginny Brooks in the 400 meters and Samantha Smith in the discus throw, and a podium finish from the Lumberjacks' 4x100-meter relay squad (Top DII finisher).
Brooks, a sophomore, continued her impressive season by clocking a personal-best time of 1:00.89 in the 400 meters. She also contributed in the 200 meters (26.52) and long jump (5.16m / 16' 11.25"), showcasing her versatility across multiple events.
In the field events, Smith delivered her best career mark in the discus, tossing 40.12m (131' 7") to secure 10th place overall in a competitive field. Her throw came on her third and final attempt after solid opening marks of 28.39m and 35.48m.
On the track, the Lumberjacks' 4x100-meter relay team of Joy Hano, Chris Roberds, Cadence Peery, and Mia Roberts blazed to a time of 48.32 to take third place overall, which was also good for the Top DII finish.
Roberts led the Jacks in the sprints, placing 15th in the 200 meters (25.67) and 20th in the 100 meters (12.64). Peery and Roberds also competed in both sprint events, while Brielle Jimerson delivered a 12th-place finish in the 400 meters (1:00.39) and a 26.78 time in the 200.
Hano and Roberds both returned to hurdle competition as well, with Hano posting a 15.17 in the 100-meter hurdles to finish 14th overall, and also placing 10th in the long jump (5.26m / 17' 3.25").
Up next, the Jacks will head to Chico to compete in the Chico Twilight and Distance Carnival on Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April 12.
