ARCATA, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt men's soccer are competing at home on Sunday, Sept. 7 as they will take on Menlo at 2 p.m. at College Creek Field. The Lumberjacks will look to secure their first win of the year at the end of their two-game homestand before diving into six away games followed by a demanding CCAA schedule at the beginning of October.
LAST TIME OUT
Cal Poly Humboldt's home opener for the 2025 season concluded with a scoreless draw against Jessup University on Thursday, where goalkeeper Benjamin McDonald led the way defensively. McDonald recorded five saves to notch the first shutout of the season for the Lumberjacks.
The back line, anchored by Maumausolo Uiagalelei, Shota Lam, and Elijah Espinoza, limited Jessup's attack to just five shots on goal despite facing 11 total shots.
Offensively, Humboldt generated nine shots, including two from both Harper Thweatt and John Warnell. Paris Ruiz, Gavin Gartner, and James Haynes also created quality scoring opportunities, but the 'Jacks were unable to find the back of the net.
The match featured seven yellow cards, with Humboldt being issued six as both teams played with a physical edge throughout the contest.
TOPPLING THE OAKS
After a hard-fought draw against Jessup, the 'Jacks aim to sharpen their offense and capitalize on scoring chances to earn their first win of the season against Menlo. Humboldt fell short in their most recent matchup against the Oaks, but looks to bring a halt to that trend on its home turf.
