Lumberjacks Track & Field to Compete at Chico Invitational & Distance Carnival

ARCATA, Calif. Cal Poly Humboldt men's track & field will hit the road this weekend, traveling to University Stadium in Chico, Calif. for the Chico Invitational & Distance Carnival on Friday, Apr. 10, and Saturday, Apr. 11. The program will have the opportunity to showcase depth across sprints, distance, hurdles, jumps, and throws while aiming for personal bests, qualifying marks, and team points.

The Lumberjacks enter the weekend nearing national ranking, with the team ranked at #27 in the USTFCCCA DII national rankings. In CCAA competition, the 'Jacks sit third in the conference, making this meet a key opportunity to improve positioning.

LAST TIME OUT

Humboldt comes off a weekend of record-breaking performances at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic and Brutus Hamilton Invitational & Multi meets in the Bay Area, highlighted by standout results from both programs.

The men's 4x400m relay (Zach Blood, Cam Bishop, Joey Bowser, Jamie Saunders) ran a new school record of 3:13.41, earning CCAA track athlete of the week consideration.

Alex Dillon cleared 2.01m (6'7") in the high jump, ranking #5 in the CCAA.

Michael Payan won the pole vault event, maintaining his CCAA-leading mark and outjumping all DI competitors, earning field athlete of the week consideration.

Adam Garrison (15'1.5") and Collin Friedman (15'1") moved up to #6 and #7 in program history in pole vault and now rank 8th and 10th in the CCAA.

CHICO INVITATIONAL & DISTANCE CARNIVAL

This weekend, Humboldt will face a deep field of regional competition at the Chico Invitational & Distance Carnival, featuring Friday's distance events and Saturday's full invitational schedule, including sprints, hurdles, relays, mid-distance, distance, and field events.

The men will rely on strong performances from the record-setting 4x400m relay, Alex Dillon in the high jump, Michael Payan in pole vault, and other sprinters, throwers, and distance runners to improve Humboldt's national and conference rankings.

With balanced depth across all event groups, the Chico meet offers an important opportunity for Humboldt to showcase consistency, chase NCAA provisional marks, and strengthen team positioning in the CCAA and nationally.
