ARCATA, Calif. - Cal Poly Humboldt women's soccer spent Saturday morning giving back to the local soccer community, helping prepare fields for the upcoming Mad River Youth Soccer League season.
The Lumberjacks worked together to set up 19 soccer fields, spraying lines, moving goals and attaching nets as part of the league's field preparation efforts.
"It was really fun watching the team work together to set up these fields," Cal Poly Humboldt head coach
Grant Landy said. "It's so important for us to give back to our Humboldt community. The fact that we were able to help the Humboldt youth soccer community made it even more gratifying."
The opportunity carried additional meaning for Lumberjacks
Alia Prentiss and
Grace Pimentel, who both grew up playing on these fields and in the Mad River Youth Soccer League.
"Now that I play college soccer, I appreciate even more the role that youth soccer played in my development," Prentiss said. "Being able to give back a little to the league that helped me find the love for this sport was a very rewarding experience."
For the Lumberjacks, the morning was about more than preparing fields. It was an opportunity to reconnect with the community that supports Cal Poly Humboldt athletics and help create the same youth soccer experiences that shaped members of the current team.
The Lumberjacks will carry that community-first mindset into the 2026 season as they prepare for the upcoming campaign.
