Grant Landy Announces 2026 Season as Final Year Coaching Cal Poly Humboldt Women's Soccer

ARCATA, Calif. - Cal Poly Humboldt head women's soccer coach Grant Landy has announced that the 2026 season will be his final year leading the Lumberjack women's soccer program.

Following the 2026 campaign, he will step away from coaching at Cal Poly Humboldt, concluding a distinguished collegiate coaching career that has spanned three decades across the NCAA Division II and NAIA ranks.

"I want to thank all the student-athletes who I had a chance to coach at Humboldt, as well as the current and past assistant coaches," Landy said.  "While it's sad to say goodbye, it's time for me to move back to Oregon and be closer to my family. "

Landy enters his final campaign after delivering one of the most successful seasons in program history in 2025. The Lumberjacks earned their first NCAA Division II Championship berth since 1996 after posting an 8-6-8 overall record and a 4-2-5 mark in CCAA play.

After securing the No. 5 seed in the CCAA Tournament, Humboldt authored a memorable postseason run. The Lumberjacks defeated fourth-seeded Cal State San Bernardino in penalty kicks before upsetting defending national champion and top-seeded Cal Poly Pomona in the semifinals. Humboldt then captured its first CCAA Tournament Championship with a 1-0 victory over Chico State, earning the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance in nearly three decades. The Lumberjacks closed the season with a hard-fought 1-0 loss to Cal Poly Pomona in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.

"My time at Humboldt has been very satisfying, both personally and professionally" said Landy. "I have loved living here, working in our department, and building a program that our current student-athletes and alumni can be proud of. I am excited about the upcoming season and look forward to enjoying this final fall with all the players."

Since taking over the program in 2020 and officially coaching his first season in 2021 following the COVID-19 pandemic, Landy has transformed the Lumberjacks into one of the CCAA's most consistent contenders. Humboldt has qualified for the conference tournament in each of the past four seasons, highlighted by consecutive program milestones.

In 2022, Landy guided the Lumberjacks back to the CCAA Tournament for the first time in 17 seasons while recording his 400th career coaching victory with a 1-0 win over Chico State in the regular-season finale.  The program reached another milestone in 2023, posting a 13-5-2 record and advancing to the CCAA Tournament semifinals after winning the program's first-ever conference tournament match with a 2-1 overtime victory over Stanislaus State.

"Coach Grant Landy's impact on our program reaches far beyond wins and championships," said Director of Athletics Nick Pettit. "Through his leadership, integrity, and commitment to the growth and success of every student-athlete, he has helped shape the culture and tradition of Cal Poly Humboldt Women's Soccer. His passion for the game, high standards, and ability to inspire those around him have created an enduring mark on countless student-athletes, coaches, and members of the Lumberjack community. We are deeply grateful for his outstanding contributions to Cal Poly Humboldt and the lasting legacy he has built."

This fall, Landy enters his 30th year as a collegiate head coach and as one of the most accomplished active coaches in the country. Over 29 seasons, he has compiled a 429-118-60 career record, good for a .756 winning percentage. He ranks among the nation's active NCAA Division II coaching leaders in both career victories and winning percentage, while his success across both the NCAA Division II and NAIA levels has established him as one of the winningest coaches in collegiate women's soccer history.

Prior to arriving at Cal Poly Humboldt, Landy built Concordia University-Portland into a national powerhouse, compiling a 388-84-37 record over 23 seasons. His teams won 17 conference championships, captured the 2013 NAIA National Championship, reached four national championship matches and made 14 consecutive NAIA National Tournament appearances. Following Concordia's transition to NCAA Division II, he led the Cavaliers to conference championships and NCAA Tournament appearances before being inducted into the Concordia University Athletics Hall of Fame in 2020.

The 2026 season will provide the Lumberjack community the opportunity to celebrate one of the most accomplished coaches in women's soccer while Landy and the Lumberjacks pursue one final championship together. Landy's last season with Humboldt begins with an exhibition match at home against Simpson on Aug. 15.
