ARCATA — Sonoma State regained its attack late in the game and carried it over into overtime, escaping with a 2-1 win over Humboldt State in a California Collegiate Athletic Association women's soccer game played Sunday.

Taylor Edmonds collected a pass from Brittany Peterson and drove in into the net, proving the Seawolves with the victory seven minutes into the first overtime. The win allowed the region's No. 4 ranked team to improve to 11-3-1 overall and 6-2-1 in the CCAA, while Humboldt State dropped to 8-6-1 and 4-4-1 in league.

The Seawolves had gained the lead in a very evenly-played first half when Peterson found a loose ball in front of the goal following a free kick. Her goal held up until the the Jacks countered 10 minutes into the second half when Megan Kobler drove home the score off of Katie Forba's corner kick.

"We played so well today that it's very frustrating to not come away with the win," HSU head coach Andy Cumbo said. "All we could have done different was to work hard for another goal once we had grabbed the momentum. We had the opportunities to score but didn't convert."

The final statistics reflected the even matchup, Sonoma State coming away with 19 shots to Humboldt State's 16. The teams were even in that same category following regulation, but the Seawolves controlled the overtime period.

Humboldt State goalkeeper Kelly Sandberg finished with 10 seaves while SSU keeper Courtney Grixti had four. Sandberg had two spectacular saves late in the game, leaping high to prevent one and coming out to stop a two-on-one chance on another.

Humboldt State goes on the road for its next CCAA games, traveling to play San Francisco State on Friday and Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday.
