SEASIDE – Playing almost the entire game with 10 players, Humboldt State dropped its 2008 road finale 2-0 to Cal State Monterey Bay in California Collegiate Athletic Association women's soccer action
Sunday.
With the loss, the Jacks fall to 8-9-1 overall and 4-7-1 in the CCAA. The Otters finish their season 2-17-1 and 1-13 in the CCAA.
“We had our chances, but (goals) just never came
today,” Humboldt State head women's soccer coach Andy Cumbo said. “Overall, it wasn't a good game for us.”
The Jacks got off to a good start, but after
Kim Carroll received a red card eight minutes into the game, the tides turned.
CSUMB took advantage of playing a player up when Alyssa Matheson scored the eventual game-winner after a failed clearance by an HSU defender. Eva Ascola and Kelsey Poulsen were credited with the assists.
“We worked hard
today but being down a player really cost us,” said Cumbo. “
Kelsey Gomula had another solid game for us in the back.”
The Otters doubled their lead with just six seconds left, again on a goal by Matheson, this time assisted by Stacy Michelson.
Humboldt State will return home for its final two games of the season. The Jacks will face Chico State
Friday at 7 p.m. in Redwood Bowl.
