ARCATA – The Humboldt State volleyball team concludes the road portion of California Collegiate Athletic Association play this weekend, traveling to face the San Francisco State University Gators, Friday. The Lumberajcks then head to Seaside on Saturday to play Cal State Monterey Bay. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.

Lumberjack Notes: After suffering a tough weekend of losses, the Lumberjacks' overall record dropped to 7-14 and their CCAA mark fell to 5-9. Humboldt State tops the CCAA in blocking, averaging 2.41blocks per set. Offensively, the Jacks hold the No. 5 spot in digs, averaging 14.42 per set. …

Opponents Notes: San Francisco State University is 11-12 overall and 5-10 in CCAA competition. Last weekend the Gators' losing streak expanded to four with a five-set loss to CSU Monterey Bay Friday and another to No. 15 nationally ranked UC San Diego on Saturday. For the Gators' individual categories, Beth Perkins holds the No. 4 spot in the CCAA, averaging 3.44 kills per set, while Christina Johnson tops the conference, averaging 4.83 digs per set. Defensively, the Gators rank third in digs, averaging 16.44 per set. …CSU Monterey Bay is 7-17 overall and 3-11 in conference. The Otters spilt their weekend league games, defeating San Francisco State in five sets before losing to UC San Diego in three. The Otters' Rheann Fall and Alisha Thomas lead their team in kills per set, averaging 2.60 and 2.08 respectively.
Head to Head: Humboldt State holds a 17-33 all-time match record against San Francisco State. During the teams previous meeting this season the Gators defeated the Jacks in three sets. …After sweeping Cal State Monterey Bay earlier this season, the Lumberjacks improved their all-time match record over the Otters to 21-3.
Woodstra's Words: “There are a lot of parts to the game,” Humboldt State head volleyball coach Sue Woodstra said. “Our blocking is good but we need to keep it up and improve on our ball handling.” … “We need to get back on our feet and move our feet more on defense.”
