LA JOLLA – Attempting to end its Southern California roadtrip on a high note, the Humboldt State men's soccer team only managed a 0-0 draw in double overtime against UC San Diego in California Collegiate Athletic Association action Sunday.
The Jacks now stand 6-3-4 overall and 1-3-3 in the CCAA. The Tritons move to 6-3-2 and 3-3-2 in conference play.
“Both the coaches and the players are disappointed that we didn't come out of this game with a win,” said Humboldt State head men's soccer coach Andy Cumbo. “We needed to get three points.”
HSU started the first half well, with midfielder
Josh Suggs continually getting his chances on the left flank. However, nothing came of it.
“We had our chances but we just didn't put them away,” said Cumbo.
Both teams had their chances to score in the second half, but both goalkeepers did their parts to keep the game scoreless. HSU keeper
Drew Ryan, who has been the Jacks' most consistent player of late, finished the game with nine saves, six coming in the second half.
The Jacks will look to amass much needed points at home Friday when they host Cal Poly Pomona at 7 p.m. in Redwood Bowl.
