HAYWARD – The West Region's No. 5 ranked Lumberjacks of Humboldt State traveled to Cal State East Bay and lost a heartbreaker, 2-1 in double-overtime.  The loss drops the HSU women's soccer team's record to 7-4-0 overall, 4-3-0 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play, while CSUEB improves to 3--3, 2-4-2 in conference.

In the 103rd minute Cal State East Bay's Michelle Quintero hit a shot from the top of the box that curled into the top right corner of the goal to give the Pioneers the win.

CSUEB opened the scoring in the 12th minute as Shianna Falk broke away and came in one-on-one.  She beat Jacks keeper Kelly Sandberg with a shot from 15 yards out to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead.  HSU got off five shots in the half, led by Kim Carroll's two. 

In the second half the Jacks outshot Cal State East Bay 8-6 and finally broke through at the 84:23 mark. Freshman Bre Taylor fed Arielle Kern who blasted a shot off Pioneers keeper Nina Cefalo to tie the match 1-1.  Taylor's assist was her first point as a collegiate player and Kern's goal was her team-leading seventh of the season.

In the first overtime Humboldt State didn't manage a shot.  The Pioneers got off just one shot, which was high.

In the second overtime Cal State scored on the first shot they took and ended the match.
 
The Lumberjacks were out shot 15-13, led by Kern's three.  In net, Sandberg made five saves in a losing effort.  Her record is now 7-4-0.

The Jacks return to action on Sunday when they face the No. 4 team in the West Region, the Tritons of UC San Diego in a 2:30 p.m. kickoff.
