COLTON - After two Olympic silver medals and a combined 20 years of coaching and playing professional volleyball, Humboldt State head volleyball coach Sue Woodstra was inducted into her hometown of Colton's Sports Hall of Fame on March 20.
Woodstra began her road to success lettering in volleyball, basketball, softball and field hockey at Colton High School. During her collegiate playing experience at the University of Southern California, Woodstra won the 1977 Association for Intercollegiate Athletic Women (AIAW) Volleyball National Championship.
During her time on the U.S. National team from 1978-84, she guided the 1984 U.S. Olympic team to a silver medal as team captain at the Los Angeles games. After her stint with the U.S. national team, she played professional volleyball in Japan.

Upon returning to the states Woodstra was at the helm of the University of California at Berkeley's volleyball program for three years.
In 2002 she became the 10th head coach in the history of the volleyball program at Humboldt State. While directing the Lumberjack program, Woodstra has compiled 43 wins in her six seasons. She took a hiatus at HSU from late 2007 into 2008 to serve as the first assistant coach for the U.S. Olympic team, helping it earn a silver medal at the games in Beijing, China.
