Head-to-Head
Humboldt State's record against Chico State is 16-39-6. Last year the teams split the season series, with each side winning on the other's field. The Wildcats took the match in Redwood Bowl 1-0. The Jacks returned the favor 2-1 in Chico. Long time rivals, the two schools first met in HSU's inaugural season of 1971. That match ended in a 4-1 win for Chico State. … Against Cal State Stanislaus, the Lumberjacks lead in the all-time series 26-18-1. The Warriors beat the Jacks by the score of 3-1 both times they met last year, in Arcata and Turlock. As members of the CCAA, CSU Stanislaus has taken six of the seven meetings.
Johnson's Comments
“We have certainly put ourselves in a very ugly situation. With the amount of people sitting due to injury and stupid fouls, we are going into the weekend limited on starters and players in general. Everyone, starters and bench players, have to step it up so our level of play does not drop significantly. We could be down by as many as five regular starters this week.” … “On Sunday, when we probably had more possession than any game this entire season, we gave up two easy goals. The (Cal State East Bay) players fought hard for their coach. Our guys thought that because they were a last place team, that it was going to be an easy win.” … “As far as Chico and Stanislaus, it is not going to be an easy weekend for us. Both teams are playing very well and tactically they are right on it. Are they beatable? Absolutely. For the most part everyone is beating up on everyone else in conference. We have to get better and make smarter decisions. The lack of composure is not acceptable and last week took away any chance we had at winning.”
