TURLOCK – Goals for Cal State Stanislaus in the 48th and 83rd minute were the difference as the Humboldt State men's soccer team dropped it third straight game, a 2-0 result on Sunday afternoon.
The win improves Cal State Stanislaus' overall record to 5-1-2, 4-1-1 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play. HSU falls to 1-5-2, 1-4-1 in conference action.
The Jacks took seven shots in the first half. A
Peter Darquea blast at the 20:32 mark and a
Lyle Menk header in the 41st minute were the only shots that reached the CSUS keeper Javier Rosales.
The Warriors got off only three shots in the first 45 minutes and only an Edwardo Meza shot in the 33rd minute was on frame.
Kyle Verle, in goal for HSU, made the save.
On their first shot of the second half the Warriors broke through. Nolan Holdridge threw the ball in to the far side of the field to Andres Zamora who beat Verle for a 1-0 lead at the 47:11 mark. It was Zamora's fourth goal of the season.
A Victor Regalado penalty kick at the 82:13 mark put the game away as Humboldt State only got two shots off in the second half.
For the game Cal State Stanislaus out shot HSU 10-to-9 and took five corner kicks to the Jacks zero. Each team's keeper made two saves, but Verle took the loss allowing two goals.
Josh Suggs and Menk had three shots each to lead the Jacks. Zamora led the Warriors with three shots.
