BELLINGHAM, Wash. – An own goal in the 55th minute was as the only scoring as the Western Washington University Vikings defeated the Humboldt State men's soccer team 1-0 on Monday afternoon.
With the win Western Washington is now 1-1-1 overall, while the Jacks fall to 0-1-1 on the season.

The goal came as Viking Darragh Simm penetrated deep into the HSU penalty area and played a low cross that ricocheted off two Jacks defenders and into the net.
The Vikings outshot Humboldt State 20-to-4 on a rain soaked day at Orca Field on the Whatcom Community College campus.
Josh Suggs who had three shots, all on-goal, and
Brian Holmes, whose one shot was also on-frame, led the Jacks attack.
While WWU took five times as many shots as the Lumberjacks, they only had five on-frame, all of which HSU keeper
Kyle Verle turned away. All of the HSU shots were on-goal and were saved by Viking keeper Christian Warman.
Humboldt State returns home and opens California Collegiate Athletic Association play on Friday, September 10 against Cal State San Bernardino. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Redwood Bowl.
