Lumberjacks tie Seawolves 1-1 in double overtime

Jennie Paugh made 14 saves in the 1-1 draw
Box Score ROHNERT PARK – Liz Christensen scored her second collegiate goal to tie the game at 1-1 and give the Lumberjacks one point against the Sonoma State Seawolves Sunday afternoon.

The tie leaves the Jacks 1-1-1 overall, 0-1-1 in the California Collegiate Athletics Association, as they return home to host Cal State Monterey Bay this Friday, Sept. 16, at 12:30 p.m. Sonoma State continues a winless streak at 0-3-1 overall, 0-1-1 in conference action.

Ashley Martin scored first for Sonoma State in the 21st minute by heading in a cross from Kate McFarland. The Seawolves continued to put pressure on the Jacks, but could not get past Jennie Paugh, who had 14 saves in the match.

The Jacks only fired off two shots in the first half, but Christensen found the back of the net in the 41st minute to tie the game at 1-1 before heading into halftime. Sonoma State committed a foul 20 yards from goal and Christensen scored right off the free kick.

Sonoma State had a great chance to take the lead in the 49th minute when a penalty kick was awarded for the Seawolves. Paugh came up with a big stop to prevent Megan Cunningham's penalty kick attempt and keep the game at 1-1.

The Seawolves outshot the Jacks 29-4—16-1 shots on goal—but could not get past the brick wall Paugh and her back four set up. Sonoma State's last-minute shot was blocked, sending the teams into overtime.

Humboldt State could only get one shot off in the 20 minutes of extra time, but refused Sonoma State the chance of getting ahead, leaving the game tied at one a piece.
