ROHNERT PARK — Giving up 30 shots, while only grabbing four of their own, was not the way the Humboldt State Jacks were wanting to close out the season. The Jacks suffered an 8-0 loss to host Sonoma State and have just one more game in the season to end the year on a positive note.
With the defeat, HSU falls to 1-12 overall, while the Seawolves jump to 14-2-1 on the season.
Humboldt State couldn't produce offensively, only getting one shot off in the first half.
Sydney Nicholas gave the Jacks their first and only look on goal in the first half, making SSU goalkeeper Alexis Sciacqua make one of just two saves for the shutout.
Sonoma State struck early and struck often, scoring the first goal in the sixth minute of play. Ashley Martin fired her shot into the upper-right corner of the goal to put the Seawolves up 1-0 and two more Seawolves added goals in before halftime to give the host team a three-goal cushion at half.
Despite getting three shots off in the second half, two of which came from
Colette Behen, Humboldt State could not hold off the powerful and goal-thirsty Seawolves, conceding five more goals to end the game in a devastating 0-8 loss.
Humboldt State travels to Chico State on Sunday, Oct. 28, for its final contest of the 2012 season. The Jacks will look to put the Seawolves' blow behind them as they face the only team they have grabbed a victory from this year.
