Box Score TURLOCK — With the last contest between Humboldt State and No. 10–ranked Cal State Stanislaus fresh in the Jacks' minds, head coach CJ Johnson hoped his young team would be able to build on their successes and fix their mistakes. Unfortunately for HSU, the Warriors turned the offensive pressure on early and never took the foot off the throttle, rocking the Jacks 4-0 in Turlock.
With the loss, Humboldt State falls to 1-5 overall, while CSUS jumps to 9-1 and extend their winning streak to seven games.
Cal State Stanislaus came out strong, putting the first of 17 shots on goal in just the first minute of action. The Warriors fired five shots off, finding the back of the net on one in the 22nd minute starting off a throw-in, before the Jacks could create any look at the frame.
Lizzie Mitchell gave the Jacks the first of only two shots in the game—both of which came from Mitchell—in the 23rd minute, but got a little too much under the ball, sending it over the crossbar.
The Warriors struck again in the 33rd minute off a fast break on offense. Maecie Ireland took advantage of Jacks goalkeeper
Kelly Lukas off her line, chipping her shot over Lukas and under the crossbar to put CSUS up 2-0.
Just before halftime, the Warriors capitalized once again with five seconds left in the first half. Tina Benson's shot rocketed off the far post, but Jordan Moineau finished the rebound to put the Jacks in a bit of a bind heading into halftime.
Looking to regroup for the second half, the Jacks made some lineup changes In hopes of finding some rhythm and create offensive opportunities. Karanee Demery knocked the wind out of the Jacks in the 50th minute, however, putting the Warriors up 4-0. Goalkeeper
Amber Woolcock came out to try to cut down the angle on Bernie Bettencourt, who slipped a pass to Demery for the finish.
Mitchell gave the Jacks their best chance in the 57th minute, but CSUS keeper Millie Brown grabbed the shot to keep her clean sheet.
The Jacks will return to Arcata to face Cal State San Bernardino on Friday, Oct. 5 at 12:30 p.m. to kick off the Jacks' last homestretch of the season. Sunday, Oct. 7, HSU hosts UC San Diego at 11:30 a.m., agame that will honor the 2012 seniors.
