Box Score SAN FRANCISCO – Despite eight shots in the final 11 minutes of regulation and two overtime periods, Humboldt State could not convert any of the attempts and were forced to settle for a tie on Sunday.
Zach Hammond connected on a penalty kick midway through the first half for the Lumberjacks (2-1-1/0-1-1 California Collegiate Athletic Association) but they did not find the goal again in a 1-1 double overtime tie with the San Francisco State Gators (1-2-1/0-1-1 CCAA).
"I am very happy with the effort the guys put into today's match. It was a positive response after the frustration of Friday," said HSU coach
Fred Jungemann. "Both teams fought hard from start to finish, and a draw was probably a fair result."
The Hammond goal was his fourth in four games of the early 2013 campaign.
San Francisco State was able to outshoot HSU, 25-19 including 7-6 combined in the two overtime periods.
Hammond and
Braxton Griffin paced the Jacks' attack with five shots apiece with both having three on goal.
Ryan Connor took three of his own with two on net.

Javier Torres posted six saves in 110 minutes of action.
At 31:38, Hammond broke a scoreless tie by successfully converting a penalty kick for the only goal of the opening half.
The game remained 1-0 HSU until the 78
th-minute of play.
Off a missed shot, the Gators' Sam Merritt put the ball into the upper right portion of the goal to even the score, 1-1, at 78:49.
HSU outshot San Francisco State 4-3 in the final 11 minutes of regulation.
Following a Gators' shot, Griffin took two boots 27 seconds apart at 80:24 and 81:57 with both going high.
After another home attempt, Connor's header was saved with 84:56 elapsed and a Hammonds header at 85:49 went wide left as the final moments of the second half ticked away.
Connor,
Austin Swartz and Sam Wahl pelted the San Francisco State net with three consecutive shots covering 12 seconds total in the first extra frame.
Torres saved two Gators' shots at 104:15 and 105:29 halfway through the second overtime.
Griffin made two final shots with just over a minute in the second extra period, but both attempts were saved by the San Francisco State keeper for the 1-1 tie.
After four road contests, HSU will play its first home action this coming week when it first hosts Cal State East Bay in a 3 p.m. match on Friday afternoon.
