Box Score CHICO, Calif. – In a closely played season-opening match, Seattle Pacific's Stephen McDonald found the back of the net in the 63
rd minute to help edge Humboldt State men's soccer, 1-0, in late Thursday afternoon action.
"The first game of the season is always going to be a bit rusty, but we showed well today against a very difficult regional opponent," said HSU Head Coach Fred Jungemann. "The result does not do justice to the amount of progress we have made and this was a painful loss."At 17:58 in to the second half, the Lumberjacks played a free kick back to goalie
Javier Torres only to see McDonald strip the ball from him, dribble to the right and slipped the ball inside the right post.
Torres recorded six saves of Seattle Pacific's seven shots on goal.
The Falcons (1-0) outshot the Jacks (0-1), 14-6, in the contest.
Forward
Chuck Pitts posted four of HSU's six shots including the lone attempt on goal.
Braxton Griffin accounted for the other two shots.
"We showed very well for long stretches of the game today and are leaving Chico feeling seriously frustrated. There are a lot of positives to take away from the game though, and we will look to rebound on Saturday against William Jessup," said Jungemann. The Jacks will look to bounce back on Saturday. HSU will play at William Jessup University in a 12:30 p.m. match to complete its first week of action.
