Final Women’s Soccer Weekend Will Answer Playoff Question

ARCATA, Calif. - Ten games into the California Collegiate Athletic Association season and there are still plenty of unknowns about which six teams will play in the annual conference tournament. Humboldt State women's soccer (9-5-2, 5-3-2) is very much in the mix and has eyes on the postseason.

"This group believes so much in each other and what they are doing," said Head Coach Paul Karver. "The girls' ability to manage that kind of pressure and expectation has really been fantastic."

The Jacks are currently in fifth in the conference with 17 points, just one ahead of Thursday's opponent Cal Poly Pomona (8-5-2, 5-4-1). Based on this weekend's results from around the conference, the Green and Gold can finish anywhere from second and earn a bye to missing the playoffs entirely.

The regular season concludes on Saturday at Cal State San Bernardino, a team on the outside looking in for the playoff race. San Bernardino needs two wins and additional help to slide into the final playoff spot.

"You look at the numbers and it is really close," said Karver. "That's why this is the best conference in the country. The reality is, if we beat Pomona on Thursday, then we're in. They're playing for their playoff lives, we're playing for ours. We can't take our feet off the gas."

The Lumberjacks will know their playoff destination late on Saturday night, as the final conference game concludes. The first round of the playoffs will be on campus sites, with the higher seeds hosting, and will be played on Tuesday, Nov. 3. The semi-finals and finals will be hosted at Cal Poly Pomona.
