ARCATA, Calif. – When Humboldt State women's soccer opened the season with consecutive losses, the Lumberjacks answered with five straight wins. Coming off a forgettable week with two conference losses, the Jacks have an opportunity to start a new streak this weekend.
"The leadership has been fantastic," said Head Coach
Paul Karver. "The belief that they have, from top to bottom, has been special. We are not hanging our head. We are just looking ahead and saying, 'Let's get a result!'"
HSU (5-4-0, 2-2-0) will play road California Collegiate Athletic Association games on Friday against Cal State Monterey Bay and on Sunday at San Francisco State. The Otters (3-6-0, 0-3-0) are winless through the early part of the CCAA season and can be the starting point for a new Humboldt State winning streak. San Francisco State (6-2-1, 2-0-1) has yet to drop a conference match.
Humboldt State's offense will be tasked with testing the goalkeepers of each opponent this weekend. Neither Monterey Bay nor SF State has seen as many shots come their way as the Green and Gold. The Jacks have more saves this season (62) than both the Otters and Gators combined (61).
"If you think about where we are, there is no real reason to hang our head," said Karver. "It's muddy at the top. Nobody is hitting the panic button. We just have to focus on getting results this weekend."
Matches will start at 12:30 p.m. on Friday and 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.
