ARCATA, Calif. – Humboldt State men's soccer returns to conference play at home this weekend following a week off. The Green and Gold will host San Francisco State (Friday, Oct. 14) and Cal State Monterey Bay (Sunday, Oct. 16).
HSU enters this week's matches with an overall record of 3-6-1 while sitting at 1-5 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play.
With six games remaining in the season, a bye week provided HSU with some much-needed rest. Now the Jacks prepare for a pivotal homestand as they attempt a postseason run.
"We have a few injuries, and we are just trying to get ourselves healthy," said head coach
Fred Jungemann. "We took a couple of days off and tried to relax a little bit. We tried to get ourselves prepared to finish out the last six games of the season and, hopefully, make it into this stretch with everybody healthy and ready to go."
San Francisco State enters the week 6-5-1 overall and 3-4-1 in conference play. The Gators sit just two spots in front of the Jacks in the conference standings heading into the matchup.
"SF State has a new coach this year, and it still has been getting some really good results," said Jungemann. "They are playing a much different style this year, much more aggressive, with an attacking mentality that has led to quality results."
Cal State Monterey Bay enters this week with an overall record of 2-7-2 and a conference record of 0-6-2. The Otters are just one spot behind the Jacks in the conference standings.
"Obviously our conference is a grind, playing week in and week out against some really talented teams, and this weekend is no exception," said Jungemann. "I mean, San Francisco and Monterey Bay have both shown that they can compete in this conference and get results against really strong oppositions. There is no rest, unfortunately for us. We have to come out, compete and show that we are capable of winning some games in our conference."
