Men's Soccer Hits The Road To Take On Seawolves and Wildcats

ARCATA, Calif. – After a short homestand that featured a dramatic double-overtime win and a match played in a torrential downpour, the Humboldt State men's soccer team will travel for matches at Sonoma State (Wednesday, Oct. 19) and Chico State (Sunday, Oct. 23).

HSU enters the week with an overall record of 4-7-1 with a 2-6-0 mark in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

The Lumberjacks claimed a 2-1 double-overtime victory over San Francisco State last Friday before falling to Cal State Monterey Bay by an identical score on Sunday.

"Friday was a lot of fun getting a good result in overtime," said head coach Fred Jungemann. "Dealing with the weather on Sunday was a difficult thing, but I thought the guys did well. We fought throughout the game and, unfortunately, we lost a tough game."

Sonoma State enters the week in second place in the CCAA standings with an overall record of 6-2-5 and 5-1-2 in conference play. The Seawolves defense is led by goalie Mitch North who has the fourth best goals against average in the conference and has recorded four shutouts this season.

"Sonoma plays a very possession oriented style, and they are very good at what they do," said Jungemann. "They are getting a lot of good results."

Chico State enters the week in eighth place in the CCAA with a 6-5-3 overall record and a conference record of 5-3-2.  The Wildcats are led offensively by Omar Nuno who is tied for second in the conference with eight goals.

"Chico has found its form lately, having won five of its last six," said Jungemann. "They have been playing very well and scoring a lot of goals. They are going to present some very difficult challenges from a defensive standpoint."

After this road trip, the Jacks return home for their final two regular season games. HSU will take on Cal State Los Angeles (Thursday, Oct. 27) and Cal State Dominguez Hills (Saturday, Oct. 29).
