ARCATA, Calif. –
Coming off an exhibition win over Corban last weekend, Humboldt State women's soccer looks to continue its winning ways at this week's Lumberjack Classic event. HSU welcomes Sonoma State, Fresno Pacific, and Colorado Mesa to the North Coast this Thursday and Saturday.

The Jacks take on Colorado Mesa at 3:30 p.m. at College Creek field on Thursday and face Fresno Pacific Saturday at 2 p.m. at the same site.

Sophomore Myriah Epino's supplied the go-ahead goal in Saturday's 2-1 road win over Corban, and junior Alex Jenkins contributed the Jacks' other score in the exhibition game victory.

Head Coach Paul Karver was impressed with his team's ability to overcome adversity in the exhibition opener.

"We have a little more maturity this year, a lot of returners, and we have some good young players that will step in and play some key roles as well," said Head Coach Paul Karver. "The maturity of our seniors showed in the exhibition. We gave up a goal that last year would have resulted in us giving up two pretty quickly. Four minutes later we score the game winner and get out of there with the win."

Looking forward to this weekend, the Jacks are trying to avenge last season's early-season neutral-site 2-0 loss to Colorado Mesa. Karver is trying to get the most out of one of the most seasoned squads he's had in his five years leading the program. He would not commit to naming a starting goalkeeper until Wednesday entering the weekend between Nora Goodrie and Katelin Talbert, who each tended goal for a half versus Corban.

After concluding their preseason with a trip north to take on Oregon Tech on September 8, the Jacks will hit the road for their first taste of league play, taking on Cal State East Bay on September 15.

HSU students, faculty and staff receive free admission to regular season home women's soccer games with campus ID. Links to live stats and video are available above the preview.
