‘Jacks On the Road This Weekend for Two CCAA Matches

Maddie Johnson and Her Teammates will be at CSUDH This Friday
ARCATA, Calif---  Humboldt State women's soccer team will return to the pitch this weekend as the 'Jacks will begin a three-match road trip this Friday, October 8 with a 1:30 pm starting match in Carson, Calif., against Cal State Dominguez Hills.  HSU will continue its road trip this Sunday, October 10 with a 2:00 pm match in Seaside, Calif. Against Cal State Monterey Bay.    

COACHING STAFF:  Coach Grant Landy will begin his second season at the helm of the Lumberjack women's soccer program after coaching for 23 years at Concordia University-Portland.  During his career, Landy has compiled a 392-86-42 record for a .795 winning percentage. He will be assisted by Lumberjack Alum Taylor McMillin, who is in her fourth season as the top assistant for the women's soccer team.

RECAP OF LAST WEEKEND:  The Lumberjacks played a pair of double overtime matches to begin the CCAA season at home this past weekend.  This past Friday, HSU played a scoreless tie with the Cal State San Marcos Cougars. The 'Jacks outshot the Cougars 13-7 including four off the foot of Baylee Groom and three from Clara LenihanAlexis Aguilar recorded five saves en route to her third shutout of the season.  The 'Jacks played their third straight double overtime match on Sunday as they tied with Cal State San Bernardino 1-1.  Groom scored her first goal of the season on a ball from Maya Davis for HSU's goal.  Aguilar recorded eight saves in goal for the Lumberjacks.  

FOUR DOUBLE OVERTIMES:  Humboldt State has played four double overtime matches this season all at College Creek Field.  HSU began its season with a scoreless tie with Dominican.  The 'Jacks last three matches have all been in double overtime.  HSU tied Chico State 1-1, Cal State San Marcos 0-0 and Cal State San Bernardino 1-1-.  

LEADERS: Kendal Spencer and Clara Lenihan each have scored a team leading three goals and each have added an assist for a team high seven points to lead the way for HSU.  Kelsey Bess, Maya Davis and Baylee Groom lead the 'Jacks with their two assists while Spencer has two game-winning goals.  Alexis Aguilar has a 0.51 goals against average with 41 saves and three shutouts.  She has posted a 0.891 saves percentage.    

CCAA LEADERS:  Kendal Spencer is tied for second in game-winning goals. Spencer along with Clara Lenihan are tied for seventh in goals scored. Aguilar is second in saves percentage and saves per game while she is third in goals against average and shutouts.

CAL STATE DOMINGUEZ HILLS:  The Toros are 3-5 overall and 0-2 in the CCAA.  Holly Kaemerle leads CSUDH with her three goals while Nia Thompson and Madeleine Simone each have a team high two assists.  Ashley Correira has posted a .636 saves percentage to go with her 21 saves and 1.80 goals against average.  CSUDH leads the all-time series with the 'Jacks 14-2-1 and has won the last eight meetings in a row including 1-0 in 2019 in Arcata.  The last HSU win was in 2015 a 2-1 'Jack win in Carson.  

CAL STATE MONTEREY BAY: The Otters are 3-2-3 overall and 0-1-1 in the CCAA. They are led by Alexandria Diaz with her four goals including two game-winning goals.  Amelida McManus has scored three goals and Megan Roberts has added two assists.  Aubrey McKessy has posted a 0.70 goals against average with 12 saves and a .750 saves percentage.  Humboldt State leads the all-time series with the Otters 12-7-3 including 1-0 in overtime in 2019 in Arcata when Kendal Spencer connected on a ball from Kelsey Bess in the 92nd minute.  

UP NEXT:  After this weekend, HSU will continue its road trip with a 4:30pm match in Turlock, Calif., on October 14 against Stanislaus State.  The 'Jacks will return home on Sunday, October 17 at 11:30am when they host Cal State East Bay.
