Williamson and Rusk Lead the Way for the ‘Jacks at The Lewis Conference Crossover Classic

Saedy Willamson Paced HSU with her 52nd place finish today
ROMEOVILLE, Ill.---   Both of the Humboldt State women's and men's cross country teams participated in the Sixth Annual Lewis Conference Crossover Classic this morning at the Lewis Cross Country Course in Romeoville, Illinois, competing against some of the top teams in the nation in NCAA Division II.  Saedy Williamson paced the Lumberjack women with her 52nd place time of 23:33.1 in the 6K race. As a team, HSU finished in 18th place out of 25 teams. HSU's men finished in 16th place out of 24 teams.  Ian Rusk paced the 'Jack men with his 61st place time of 26:05.5 in the 8K race.
 
QUOTES FROM THE COACH:  "This wasn't our best as a team, but we did a lot of good things out there today," said head coach Jamey Harris.  "Saedy (Williamson), Pearl (Burton), Ian (Rusk), Elliott (Portillo), Sebastian (Vaisset-Fauvel) and Jacob (Zerecero) were great today."

WOMEN'S RACE: Humboldt State were paced by Saedy Williamson with her time of 23.33.1. This was Williamson's fastest time this season in HSU's first three races of the season.  Finishing behind Williamson was two-time CCAA Runner of the Week, Rosa Granados, who ran a 23:48.8 to finish in 71st place.  The next 'Jack runner to cross the finish line was Pearl Burton (142nd, 24:53.8) followed by Kayla Penny (156th, 25:06.9) and Andie Kolasinski (162nd, 25:15.3).  Also running for the Lumberjacks this morning in the humidity were Emily Bath (202nd, 26:13.8), Serena Smith (203rd, 26:14.5), Anabel Ojeda (214th, 26:56.6) and Melissa Pinter (248th, 29:49.8). 
 
Grand Valley State University's Kloudia O'Malloy captured the classic with her time of 21:54.1.
 
WOMEN'S TEAM:  As a team, the 'Jacks finished in 18th place out of 25 teams with their 477 points.  Grand Valley State, who is currently the number one team in the nation, won the team title with its 36 points followed by Lewis University with 106 points.  Finishing in third place with 124 points was the 21st ranked team in the nation, Colorado Christian.
 
MEN'S RACE:  The Lumberjacks were paced by Ian Rusk, who finished in 61st place with a time of 26:05.5. Sebastian Vaisset-Fauvel was the next Lumberjack runner to cross the finish line with his 79th place time of 26:20.3.  Running in his first race in almost two years was Elliott Portillo, who finished in 85th place with his time of 26:25.4.  Rounding out the top five for the 'Jacks were Jacob Zerecero (146th, 27:26.7) and Jaxon Leduc (171st, 27:48.1).  Also running for the Green and Gold this morning was Ricardo Torres (111st, 26:51.2), Kaleb Traficante (188th, 28:19.3), Michael Gengo (194th, 28:32) and Lucio Rivas (209th, 28:57.7).  Carson Smith but his time didn't make the results as of press time.
 
Saginaw Valley State's CarLee Stimpfel won the 8K race with his time of 23:55.1. 
 
MEN'S TEAM:  HSU as a team finished in 16th place out of 24 teams with its 452 points.  The sixth-ranked Colorado Christian University won the team title with 59 points followed by No. 19 Lewis University with 87 points and No. 1 Grand Valley State (96 points).

UP NEXT:  The Lumberjacks will be off for two weeks preparing for the 2021 CCAA Championships, which will take place on Saturday, October 23.  This year's championships will take place at the San Marcos Championships Course on the campus of Cal State San Marcos in San Marcos, Calif.  The women's 6K race will start at 9am with the men's 8K race to follow at 10am.
