MCKINLEYVILLE, Calif. – The Cal Poly Humboldt women's cross country team opened their 2025 season with a dominant performance at the Jim Hunt Humboldt Invitational, hosted on their home course at Beau Pre Golf Course on Saturday morning. Facing conference foes and regional competitors, the Lumberjacks saw standout individual finishes and a great team effort in the Women's 6K race.
WOMEN'S 6K
On the women's side, Lex Craven led the way for the Lumberjacks with a second-place finish, clocking 23:03.72, just 30 seconds behind race winner Alyssa Johnson of Southern Oregon. Junior Brinna Weiseth followed closely in fourth at 23:31.32, while junior Charlotte Leonard ran a personal best to place sixth with a time of 23:42.34.
The Lumberjacks packed well through the middle of the race, with junior Katelyn Touchet taking ninth (23:52.02) and sophomore Lyla Fedio finishing 11th (23:57.11) to complete Humboldt's top five. Freshman Maddie McKenna (19th, 24:41.37) and sophomore Izzi Peila (20th, 24:42.47) provided additional depth.
Humboldt secured the team victory by a wide margin with 32 points, while Southern Oregon finished in second with 58 points. SF State placed third with 62 points, and Oregon Tech followed in fourth with 73.
UP NEXT
The Lumberjacks will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 27, competing at the Mike Johnson Classic in Monmouth, Ore. The meet will give Humboldt another opportunity to test its depth against a competitive regional field as the season progresses.
