Lumberjacks Look to Clinch First Ever CCAA Post-Season Berth

Motoki Sato and his Lumberjack Teammates are looking to clinch their first ever CCAA post-season berth
ARCATA, Calif---  Humboldt State Lumberjacks will either need to tie or pick up a win in their final regular season match of the season this Thursday, November 4 at Chico State to clinch their first ever CCAA Championships Berth.  The 'Jacks head into Thursday's match with Chico State with a 10-4-2 overall record and a 4-4-2 record in the CCAA with 14 points (three points for a win; one point for a tie). Chico State is 5-11 overall and 4-6 in the CCAA for 12 points.  The match is scheduled to begin at 11:30am at the University Soccer Stadium on the campus of Chico State in Chico, Calif.

COACHING STAFF:  Coach Fred Jungemann is in his ninth year on the sideline for the Lumberjacks.  This year, Coach Jungemann's assistants are three former Lumberjacks in Frankie Calderon, Phil Rouse and Isaiah Dairo who will begin their first year on the Lumberjack coaching staff. 
 
LAST WEEK'S GAMES:  Humboldt State went 0-2 on the road in Southern California against the top two teams in the CCAA.   Friday afternoon, HSU lost 2-1 to Cal Poly Pomona.  The 'Jacks took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Alex Lopez in the eighth minute off a free kick from Dylan Tovani.  The Broncos tied the game in the 79th minute on a goal by Jerry Ramirez and then took the lead in the 81st minute on a goal by Eduardo Faria.  On Sunday afternoon, the Lumberjacks lost 3-0 to the No. 8 Cal State Los Angeles Golden Eagles. 
 
MOST WINS SINCE 2006:  The 10 wins by the Lumberjacks this season are the most since the 2006 when the 'Jacks finished the season 11-6-3.  That season, the 'Jacks finished with a 7-6-3 CCAA record and in fourth place in the CCAA North Division. 
 
PLAYOFF HUNT:  Heading into the final match of the regular season, the Lumberjacks are in fifth place in the CCAA Standings.  The top six teams will receive a berth to the CCAA Soccer Championships, Nov. 7, 12-14.  Cal State Los Angeles (28 points) holds the top spot followed by Cal Poly Pomona (26 points) and Cal State Dominguez Hills (21 points).  Rounding out the top six are Cal State San Bernardino (20 points), Humboldt State (14 points) and Sonoma State (13 points). Still alive for the final two spots are Chico State (12 points) and Cal State Monterey Bay (10 points).  The first round will be at the higher seed on November 7 with the top two seeds receiving a bye.  The semi-final and final matches will be at Cal State Los Angeles on November 12-14.

LEADERS: Marco Silveira leads HSU with his seven goals, 10 assists and 24 points.  Silveira also leads the 'Jacks with his four game-winning goals.  Daniel Adeyeye is next on the team with his three goals, three assists, nine points and one game-winning goal.  Tied with Adeyeye with nine points is Alex Lopez as he has scored four goals with one assist for nine points and two game-winning goals.  Dylan Tovani is next with three goals, two assists, eight points and two game-winning goals.  Adrian Gallardo has posted a .840 goals against average with 64 saves, seven shutouts and a .831 saves percentage.

CCAA: Four 'Jacks are in the top ten in nine statistical categories in Adrian Gallardo, Alex Lopez, Marco Silveira and Dylan Tovani.  Gallardo is tied for first in saves, second in saves percentage, tied for second in shutouts, third in saves per game and goals against average.  Lopez and Tovani are tied for fourth in game-winning goals.  Silveira leads the CCAA in assists and game-winning goals and is tied for second in points and tied for sixth in goals scored.
 
 MOVING CLOSER:  Marco Silveira is second on HSU's all-time career assists list with 24.  Kevin Wiese holds the career record with 30.  He is one  goal from moving into tenth place on the career goals list.  Silveira has scored 15 goals during his career in the Green and Gold.  He is fourth on the single season assists list with ten  the senior forward is two from moving into third and four from first.  Adrian Gallardo's seven shutouts are second on the Lumberjacks' single season shutouts.  Scott Power recorded eight in 1989 to hold the single season record at HSU.
 
CHICO STATE:  Chico State went 0-2 last weekend against No. 8 Cal State Los Angeles (3-2 loss) and Cal Poly Pomona (2-0 loss).  The Wildcats are 5-11 overall and 4-6 in the CCAA and need to defeat the 'Jacks this Thursday to clinch a spot in the six-team CCAA Championships.  Jacob Chong leads the Wildcats with his six goals and 12 points. Chong has recorded two game-winning goals while Liam Duerksen has a team high eight assists.  Luis Albarran has posted a 1.13 goals against average with a .771 saves percentage, four shutouts and 64 saves.
 
LAST TIME:  Humboldt State defeated the Wildcats 1-0 on September 25 in a non-conference match-up in Arcata.  Marco Silveira scored what proved to be the game-winning goals in the 56th minute on a cross from Marcus Abdel Malek off a through ball from Dylan TovaniAdrian Gallardo recorded five saves en route to the shutout.  Chico State leads the all-time series with the 'Jacks 15-4-1.  HSU last victory in Chico was in 2009, a 2-1 victory.
